Service Design: it’s never just a product
Digital products are still used in a physical world, and they need to be built for it. When we talk about “digital products,” we tend to think of apps, screens, dashboards—aesthetically pleasing interfaces full of data and delightful copy. Perhaps we even think a layer deeper, imagining what sort of user research or cutting-edge dev stack underpins it all. But building a product requires attention to so much more than the devices we’re building it for, or the hands of the people holding them. Screens are an interface layer atop a vast web of people, processes, and real-world interactions, each needing care and attention to detail.

Product Over Process: Do Your Own Thing and Build Better Software
I used to be a product manager at a company that will remain nameless. Here’s how projects worked: First I would put together a project request form that contained a lengthy requirements section. After the engineering team approved this project request, we’d spend a couple of weeks together documenting the business requirements. This meant daily, hours-long meetings with perhaps a dozen participants, and at the end, the output would inevitably be … essentially my project request form copied and pasted into a new document.

Build a simple in-memory cache in Node.js
I created a Node JS project recently that required fetching some data from an external API. A colleague suggested that I cache the API call response. I thought this suggestion was a good idea since the data did not change very often and the app ran continuously hitting the same endpoint frequently. A cache would cut down on network requests and boost performance since fetching from memory is typically much faster than making an API request.

Evaluating an Agency Website
When you look at an agency’s site, what do you look for? We recently redesigned our website at MojoTech, and we spent a lot of time looking at other agency sites to help us think about how to move forward with ours.
