Each week we pick the best of what we've looked at and post it in The Recap.

One of the things we focus on with every app we build is the user onboarding process. Once a person has signed up to use/buy your product or service, what steps do you take to optimize that experience? Samuel Hulick will occasionally do a teardown of the entire process over at User Onboarding. This week he walks us through a product near and dear to our heart, Slack! It's an excellent piece from an excellent resource.

Carousels are so hot right now. Rare to find a site that doesn't have some sort of side-scrolling image action. But are they effective? In Mom Called, She Hates Your Homepage Carousel, Neil Sniffen makes the case that they don't work and offers alternatives for better use of that space.

Experiments at Airbnb takes a (really) deep dive into how they're constantly experimenting to make Airbnb a better product. A/B Testing nerds and Product Designers should get all over this one.

Anyone who's paying attention these days knows that if you aren't focusing on customer support you're a million times* more likely to fail. (*True Fact.) We're starting now to see some ideas coalescing around the idea of how to scale customer support. How can a small, resource-constrained team continue to provide excellent support when a web app gets massively successful? The team over at Buffer is doing just that and offer some really good advice in When to Teach and When to Fish: 3 Times We Skip the How-Tos in Customer Support.

When looking at web analytics we can divide what we're looking at into two categories: entity data and event data. Over at Keen.io they've got a great piece up on how to think about event data. Highly recommended for all.

Everybody wants better design, but how will you know if you’ve succeeded? By asking the right questions when you consider the User Experience. Laura Klein from Users Know helps us think about those questions and more.

If you want to stir up some controversy in a room full of designers, bring up the hamburger menu. It's becoming ubiquitous, but is it working? Two good pieces we're looking at this week: Let's Not Kill the Hamburger Icon Just Yet and Why and How to avoid Hamburger Menus present decent arguments on both sides of the burger.

We all get a little too focused sometimes on User Acquisition. If you ain't growth hacking these days you're doing it wrong. Or something. But what about User Retention?
